At Black Renaissance, we believe clothing should do more than make a statement—it should tell a story.

Founded by Forrest Sigler and Tarus Godbolt, two college friends born and raised in Mobile, Alabama, Black Renaissance was built on a shared passion for culture, creativity, and community. After graduating from University of Alabama at Birmingham, they lost touch for years.  Forrest reached out to Tarus after having the idea to create a clothing brand.  They combined their unique experiences, talents, and entrepreneurial spirit to launch a brand that would celebrate the richness of Black culture through fashion.

What began as a culturally positive streetwear brand has evolved into a licensed, streetwear-inspired sportswear company dedicated to honoring the history, pride, and traditions of Historically Black Colleges and Universities.

While neither founder attended an HBCU, their connection to HBCU culture was formed through years of visiting campuses, attending events, building relationships, and experiencing firsthand the unmatched sense of family, belonging, and excellence that defines the HBCU experience. They were inspired by the traditions, the energy, the community, and the lifelong bonds that make HBCUs unlike any other institutions in the world.

That inspiration sparked a new vision.

Today, Black Renaissance creates premium apparel that celebrates HBCU pride through a modern lens. By blending collegiate heritage with contemporary streetwear aesthetics, we design pieces that honor the past while speaking to alumni, students, supporters, and culture enthusiasts.
